Goals

The lecture deals with the vehicle tire as an essential integral component of the chassis or the vehicle. At the beginning of the lecture, the focus is on the economic consideration of the market and the business environment of the tire industry. Subsequently, the tire is described in its constructive and material-technical design; in particular, its property-relevant characteristics and its interaction with the vehicle are discussed in detail.

Topics

  • Market development and business environment of tire industry
  • Tire construction and design:
    • Tire structure
    • Usage properties
    • Standards and legal requirements
    • Production technology
    • Materials used
    • Physical properties of rubber and viscoelasticity
    • Rubber friction
    • Steady-state and non-steady-state guiding forces of tires
