The Institute of Dynamics and Vibration Research (IDS) of the Leibniz Uniersität Hannover is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. At present, 28 research associates are working at the institute, supported by 12 technical and administrative staff members..
In academics, we closely collaborate with the Institute of Continuum Mechanics. At IDS, the four groups
- dynamics of rotating machinery,
- elastomer friction and contact mechanics,
- nonlinear structural dynamics
- piezoelectric and ultrasonic technology
are dealing with our research projects. The focus is on modelling, simulation and optimisation of friction contacts, as well as on the analysis of vibration caused by friction. Furthermore, we concentrate on the analysis of dynamics of structures containing piezoelectric power converters with implementation in ultrasound technology, active vibration damping and medical engineering.
In cooperation with the L-LAB in Lippstadt, we work on automotive lighting technology associated with the Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies. Being part of the Hannover Centre for Mechatronics, we also perform research on novel actuation technologies and medical engineering problems.
The work at IDS focuses on fundamental research projects as well as on application-oriented problems. Here the close interaction between theoretic research work and its experimental validation on the institute’s test benches characterises the work at IDS, supported by state-of-the-art experimental equipment as well as by test equipment developed by the institute itself.
